things you learn, slowly
Out of sheer diffidence, you learn to live
in the shadows of clock-time,
in a precarious geography
among the detritus of the day
and the allure of myth.
Treading barefoot in the silence
of the house, labouring when others sleep.
Mythologizing and mocking yourself in turns.
Crossing unending deserts,
among dustbins and ironboards,
chancing on occasional sundials on the way
to nowhere.
